A New Name
Human Relations Day
Remembering the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This was adapted from a worship service that was celebrated on January 17, 2007, at the Wightman Chapel of the Scarritt-Bennett Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
Today, the congregation gathers together to gather in time of worship and prayer, humbly offering their gratitude to the Almighty. As Lead Pastor, Rev. David Brown, will share an impactful message centered on the theme of A New Name.
"1 For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest, until vindication shines out like the dawn, and salvation like a burning torch. 2 The nations shall see your vindication, and all the kings your glory; and you shall be called by a new name that the mouth of the Lord will give. 3 You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God. 4 You shall no more be termed Forsaken, and your land shall no more be termed Desolate; but you shall be called My Delight…”
-Isaiah 62:1-4
The service will be accentuated by the beautiful, uplifting and soulful sounds of music by the talented Armstrong Chancel Choir directed by Ben Basone and Stacy Haney on the organ and piano. Together, the faithful will lift their hearts in timeless hymns of worship, including the beloved United Methodist hymns Lift Every Voice and Sing, On Jordan’s Stormy Banks I Stand, and In Christ There is No East or West. Then the children of the congregation will also have their moment to shine, as the Children's Sunday School Program presents a special Children's Moment exploring the depths of faith. Undergirding the service is the steadfast devotion of liturgist, Steve Hoard, who will lead the congregation in the Call to Worship and guide them through the appointed scripture passages. A special thank you to our greeters, Sally Scherr and Galen and Shanon Mills. This multi-faceted celebration of praise and reverence will undoubtedly fill the hearts of all in attendance with a profound sense of gratitude and connection to the divine.
12 Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free— and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 14 Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many...
-1 Corinthians 12:12-20
