Moved by Compassion
The Gift of Empathy Week 1
September 8
Love leans in first. It listens long enough to understand why. It hears what a person fought through to get to where they are. It listens until it can hear with empathy. – Brian Johnson
Today, the congregation gathers together to partake in a sacred time of worship and prayer, humbly offering their gratitude to the Almighty. As they lift their voices in reverent praise, they are guided by the Lead Pastor Rev. David Brown, who shares an impactful message centered on the theme of Moved with Compassion.
"But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine." Luke 10:33-34
This recording is accentuated by the beautiful, uplifting sounds of music, as the congregation is led in song by the talented Stacy Haney on the organ and piano. Adding to the musical celebration, the community is honored to welcome back from a summer break, Armstrong Chancel Choir directed by Ben Basone, who will grace the sanctuary with their soulful tones.
In a world increasingly marked by division, conflict, and isolation, the need for compassion has never been more vital. Compassion fosters understanding, bridging the gaps between diverse communities and encouraging us to see beyond our differences. It inspires acts of kindness that can transform lives, heal wounds, and create a sense of belonging. As we navigate the complexities of modern life—exacerbated by social media, economic disparity, and environmental challenges—compassion becomes a powerful antidote to despair and disconnection. Embracing compassion not only enriches our own lives but also cultivates a more harmonious society, reminding us that at our core, we all share the same human experience.
"When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd." Matthew 9:36
"Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind." Philippians 2:1-2
